The Wakefield Music Boosters has been a long-time partner and supporter of the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry. Each year, the Boosters with the award-winning WHS Marching Band and Color Guard host a very successful food drive which delivers thousands of much needed, high quality food items to stock the pantry’s shelves. In 2016 alone, the group donated more than 6,400 food items such as peanut butter, soup, and cereal – in addition to various types of health & beauty aids, which can be prohibitively expensive for food pantry clients to purchase.
Also, the Music Boosters has donated $1000 to the food pantry each year since 2009. The group sets aside the pantry financial donation from money generated by its popular holiday train fundraiser. This festive event includes students throughout the Wakefield school system who are part of the visual and performing arts program, including many talented singers, actors, and musicians as well as a number of parents and friends.
Says Thomas Bankert, director of the WHS visual and performing arts program, “I am very proud of the members of the Marching Band, all of our students participating in the program, their families and friends and our dedicated Music Boosters team. Ours is a small town, and we are only too happy to do our part to help those in need.”
According to Maureen Miller, WIFP director of operations, “The Music Boosters, the WHS Marching Band and the entire group of visual and performing arts students set the bar higher every year. It’s an absolute pleasure to partner with them, and we are profoundly grateful for their support year in and year out.”
Thank you Music Boosters!
