Souper Bowl Of Caring Food Drive a Super Success

Wakefield, MA (February 17, 2010) The Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry (WIFP) wants to thank all the businesses, families, individuals and organizations that supported the Souper Bowl of Caring food drive. Approximately 1,675 pounds of food was collected including hundreds of cans of hearty soups and stews.

“This was really an amazing achievement for the first time we’ve conducted the initiative,” said Maureen Miller, Director of the WIFP. “The weekend drive coordinated by the Wakefield Basketball Association (WBA) brought in 800 pounds of food alone, which is incredible.”

Miller also expressed her gratitude to a number of local businesses that participated. “I would like to thank Bak Chiropractic, Defensive Edge Martial Arts Academy, and the Pilates Fitness and Personal Training Studio for jumping on board early in this effort to collect food for the pantry during these tough winter months.”

Miller noted that the collection bin at Shaw’s in Wakefield was filled to overflowing because of the publicity generated by the local papers, and two families brought in 12 bags of food totaling 120 pounds. “We are truly lucky to have so many caring people in Wakefield who go out of their way to help their neighbors in need,” she observed.
