| Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry News Each May, many Wakefield residents contribute to the WIFP by leaving non-perishable food items by their mailbox. Wakefield 's Letter Carriers collect the food and drop it off at WIFP to be sorted by volunteers. This year, Wakefield residents donated 6 tons of non-perishables to help their neighbors in need.
The Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry benefits from many organizations. Here are several that took the time to help.
Friends and members of Junior Girl Scout Troop 1463 decorated boxes for the Interfaith Food Pantry. The festive boxes will be used to distribute Christmas meals to local families. "The children enjoyed working on this project and were reminded of the true spirit of giving during this holiday season," said a spokesperson. Twenty-eight local high school students spent hours sorting food so that volunteers could prepare Thanksgiving Baskets for WIFP clients. The students represented the WHS Social Awareness Club, the WHS Ski and Snowboard Club, the WHS National Honor Society, and Religious Education Programs from St. Florence and St. Joseph parishes. The Greenwood School held a food drive for the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry for Thanksgiving, and the school's Brownie and Junior Girl Scout troops decorated the boxes that the clients of the WIFP received for Thanksgiving. This volunteer endeavor resulted in the girls becoming more aware of the need for food to help others in our community.
In March, the Walton Elementary school held a toiletry drive to benefit the Food Pantry.
In December, Pack 722 Webelos Scouts collected donations for the Food Pantry as a community service project.
In October, Bak Chiropractic sponsored a Patient Appreciation Day. Bak employees provided various services for current and new patients at no charge in exchange for a donation of canned goods to the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry.
The Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry participated in Wakefield's Annual Homecoming Festival in September. We offered facepainting and sold raffle tickets. Thank you to the many volunteers who helped us raise money for our neighbors in need.
