Fall is in the air. The kids are back to school. And, we have an urgent need to stock our shelves.
We’ve begun our 2nd and 4th Saturday food drives which are supported by many town organizations and individuals throughout the year. On Saturday, September 13 the Wakefield Marching Band took the lead and helped us collect and sort food. Please come by the Pantry and drop off your food donations.
We also have donation boxes at the Town Hall, the Police Station, Walgreens as well as the Greenwood and Lakeside Savings Banks. Our library is getting into to the mix and has set up a receptacle for non-perishable food items soon. How convenient! Drop off or pick up books and leave your groceries behind.
A check for $1000 from Nick Ansaldi, coordinator of the Wakefield Music Booster’s Polar Express, was recently presented to food pantry volunteer Rosanne Phillips. “WIFP would like to publicly thank the Music Boosters for their support and generosity, particularly from the proceeds of their Polar Express event over the past five years,” said Rosanne. To date, the Music Boosters have donated a total of $5000 over this period.
The WHS Music Boosters donated some big money to the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry for the fourth consecutive year. The group recently presented a check for $1,000 to share some of their earnings from the popular Polar Express event which they organize each December during the holiday season.
The WIFP gratefully accepts this generous gift and thanks the WHS Music Boosters for their support. In addition to the Polar Express fundraiser, the Marching Band students, under the direction of Tom Bankert, host a very successful food drive each September.
