We have a day for giving thanks on Thanksgiving. We have other days for getting deals like Black Friday and Cyber Monday. But, we also have www.giving Tuesday.org, a global day dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, December 1, 2015, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.
It’s a simple idea. Just find a way for your family, your community, your company or your organization to come together to give something more. On this Giving Tuesday, please consider a monetary donation or a gift of food items to our Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry.
Throughout these many years, we’ve experienced the encompassing generosity of our Wakefield “team”. I say team because so many businesses, students, schools, families, individuals and religious organizations are consistently involved and committed to our mission:
“The Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry was founded in 1982 by members of the First Baptist Church in Wakefield so that no one would go hungry in our community. Clients are residents of Wakefield who have fallen on difficult times due to job loss, illness, age or economic conditions. Anyone who demonstrates residence in Wakefield and needs food can receive assistance knowing that we respect our clients’ privacy, dignity and confidentiality with the belief that sometimes a helping hand is all you need to get back on your feet.”
Our working relationship with the Greater Boston Food Bank is an amazing example of how a team can succeed. The GBFB allows us to purchase varied food choices and, by utilizing their bulk purchasing power, we get more for our money. For every $1 dollar we accept in donations from people like you, we are able to purchase $4 in food at the Greater Boston Food Bank. We then are able to offer more nutritious, healthy choices for our clients such as fresh vegetables and fruits, dairy products, and lean proteins along with the necessary staples every household needs.
Our teams are embedded everywhere in our community: our volunteers, our banks, our grocery stores, our sports and dance teams, our music boosters, our elementary, middle school and high school initiatives, our local companies and vendors, our religious groups, our families and individuals, and our newspapers.
At the end of the day, we are a proud and extraordinarily grateful to a generous community committed to helping our neighbors. Celebrate Giving Tuesday. You can always reach us via Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry, P. O. Box 1624, Wakefield, MA 01880. Our website: www.wifoodpantry.org. Our email: firstname.lastname@example.org. With ever grateful hearts and thanks, YOUR Wakefield Food Pantry Team.
