5th Annual Tonneson + Co 5k Run/Walk to Benefit Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry
~Save the Date: Sunday, July 16, 2017~
The Fifth Annual Tonneson + Co 5K run/walk benefiting the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry’s Kids First program will take place on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. at Lake Quannapowitt. The Kids First program provides food to families with school age children during the summer months. Many families receive free or reduced price breakfast and lunch during the school year, but this help is not available during the summer. The Kids First program provides the added food items to help replace those meals.
We want to send our gratitude to everyone who supported this enormous effort: our intrepid letter carriers for picking up and delivering food, our devoted volunteers who sorted and stocked the shelves, our generous Wakefield community who took the time to shop for our most needed food items, and our Wakefield news organizations who spread the word as well as The Savings Bank that posted our event on their office videos.
And, if we are leaving any one out, please know that our hearts feel your presence and caring! Thank you again!
The Sweetser Lecture Series just wrapped up its 2017 program with great success. Not only does this endeavor bring interesting topics and speakers to Wakefield, but it also has long supported our food pantry donating thousands of dollars over the years to help stock our shelves! Check them out on Facebook and be sure to look for the 2018 program!
The Wakefield Food Pantry often partners with businesses, community groups, religious organizations and on and on. We feel it’s part of our mission to help as many as we can who are neighbors in need. So— again this year we are working with Savers Unique for a fund drive.
Savers Unique gathers soft goods (clothing, shoes, bedding and towels), hard goods (electrical items, toys, games kitchen, knick-knacks, sports goods) as well as books, CDs, and DVDs. As they raise money with these efforts, they share a portion with us! You can drop off donations at the Americal Civic Center in Wakefield, lower level on these days: May 6, 9am-12pm; May 17, 6pm to 8pm; and May 20, 9am – 12pm.
North Star Realtors recently led its Fourth Annual Laundry Detergent Drive to benefit the Wakefield Food Pantry. As mentioned by the team at North Star Realtors, “the Wakefield community was so generous as always and we delivered over 100 bottles of detergent, laundry pods and fabric softener.”
A big thank you to North Star for keeping us clean!
Since 1990, young people across the country have been leading the charge and inspiring others to collect dollars and food during the weeks leading up to the Big Game: Super Bowl 51 on February 5, 2017. And with the Patriots competing for the championship, the excitement around this football game should feed into the energy of this important endeavor!
Teaming up with local partners, groups give 100% of donations to local charities like the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry. The Pantry, located at the Americal Civic Center,467 Main Street (lower level), in Wakefield, is encouraging everyone in the community to collect monetary donations and much needed grocery items to stock the pantry shelves for the cold winter months.
During the month of November, Shaw’s sponsors in a program called “Turkey Bucks Giving Campaign”. Turkey Bucks is a program that Shaw’s Supermarkets takes very seriously for the Thanksgiving and Holiday season. We believe that no family should ever go hungry.
The Turkey Bucks program issues La Carte turkey dinners to local food pantries and organizations to go to families in need. The program runs from Tuesday, November 1 through Wednesday, November 23.
Last year, Shaw’s in Wakefield donated 200 meals to families in Wakefield through the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry. Our goal this year is to go even further and supply over 300 meals for families in need! Your support for this program at your local Shaw’s will help feed families in your community this holiday season.

We have a day for giving thanks on Thanksgiving. We have other days for getting deals like Black Friday and Cyber Monday. But, we also have www.giving Tuesday.org, a global day dedicated to giving back. On Tuesday, December 1, 2015, charities, families, businesses, community centers, and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate generosity and to give.
It’s a simple idea. Just find a way for your family, your community, your company or your organization to come together to give something more. On this Giving Tuesday, please consider a monetary donation or a gift of food items to our Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry.
