With Gratitude and Best Wishes for a Happy, Healthy New Year

The holidays are a time to slow down and appreciate what’s good in our lives. One thing I appreciate — and I’m also speaking on behalf of our board of directors — is our community’s willingness to donate foods, roll up their sleeves and sort through foods, and generally do anything the food pantry asks.

This happens across our community, in our schools, at our businesses and non-profit organizations and community groups. I can’t forget to highlight the spirit and enthusiasm of our regular volunteers, who stay true to our commitment to treating our clients with respect and kindness every single day.  read more

Consider Donating Stock this Year: A Win-Win for You and the Food Pantry

As we near the end of 2017, many people are deciding to make significant contributions to their favorite charities, and we hope our food pantry is one of them.  Before giving cash, did you know that there is an alternate strategy that can help people increase their charitable giving and save even more money on their income taxes?

People with investments in stocks, bonds and other securities they’ve held for at least one year can donate those that have gained in value. In fact, donating stock saves even more taxes than donating cash, since there is no capital gains tax when appreciated securities are given to a nonprofit. read more

Pantry Thanksgiving Basket Program Going Full Force

The pantry’s Thanksgiving basket program is going full force. The bags were distributed to clients on Tuesday and again today (Thursday). Clients can receive either a full turkey, turkey breast or a ham, if preferred. These are frozen.

In the festive decorated bags (which you can see in the photo) is stuffing, a can of vegetables, gravy, cranberry sauce, a box of mashed potatoes, a cake mix and some candy.

Troop 66174, Dolbeare School Fourth Grade Junior Girl Scouts helped to collect and bag candy that they donated and they also designed the Thanksgiving bags. Many other groups and individuals support the program which helps make Thanksgiving something very special for our clients. read more
