An Impressive Drive From the WHS Award Winning Marching Band 2017

From the Wakefield Daily Item:  We all know how well the talented members of the WHS Marching Band perform at football games and at competitions (thus…. award winning).  But that’s nothing compared to the compassion they show when they are not on center stage.

Saturday, September 16, 2017, the band came together with their supporters to donate 7,100 high quality food items to their neighbors in need.  This food drive by the Marching Band is considered the biggest of the year!

And, our pantry can use all the donations, both in food and in money, that can be spared.  Last year, the Wakefield Food Pantry: read more

Wakefield Co-op Bank’s “Teaching Kids to Grow” Program Brings Fresh Herbs & Vegetables to Food Pantry

As reported in the Wakefield Item on July 28, 2017, students at Galvin Middle School and Woodville Elementary School have been planting vegetables and herb  gardens to share with the Wakefield Food Pantry!

Janet Rivers, Mortgage Relationship Manager at the Wakefield Co-operative Bank, established the program in 2015 a way to teach kids about the ownership, responsibility, and satisfaction that comes with cultivating a garden and giving back to the community.  The program started with one garden and has now grown to six beds. read more

Thank You to Participants, Volunteers and Sponsors for Making the 5th Annual Tonneson + Co 5K Walk/Run a Great Achievement!

The 5th annual Tonneson + Co’s 5K run/walk benefiting the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry’s Kids First program was a great success again this year!  Approximately 160 people ranging in age from 6 to 76 registered for the race and enjoyed the lovely weather as they ran or walked around our beautiful Lake Quannapowitt.  While we are tallying the final numbers for money raised, we expect the race to surpass last year’s total of nearly $6500.  And, if you’d like to get the race results, please visit: https://my.racewire.com/results/33614. read more

Volunteers Needed: Watering the Galvin Gardens!

The Wakefield Co-Operative Bank in collaboration with the Galvin Middle School has planted 4 vegetable gardens in the rear side of the school. The project is called, “Teach Children to Grow”. Summer students plant and maintain the garden, and all vegetables are donated to the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry.

Help is needed to water the garden beds on Saturdays and Sundays in June, July, and August.

Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive 2017 Was A Big Success!

We want to send our gratitude to everyone who supported this enormous effort: our intrepid letter carriers for picking up and delivering food, our devoted volunteers who sorted and stocked the shelves, our generous Wakefield community who took the time to shop for our most needed food items, and our Wakefield news organizations who spread the word as well as The Savings Bank that posted our event on their office videos.

And, if we are leaving any one out, please know that our hearts feel your presence and caring! Thank you again! read more

Wakefield Food Pantry and Savers Unique Team Up!

The Wakefield Food Pantry often partners with businesses, community groups, religious organizations and on and on. We feel it’s part of our mission to help as many as we can who are neighbors in need. So— again this year we are working with Savers Unique for a fund drive.

Savers Unique gathers soft goods (clothing, shoes, bedding and towels), hard goods (electrical items, toys, games kitchen, knick-knacks, sports goods) as well as books, CDs, and DVDs. As they raise money with these efforts, they share a portion with us! You can drop off donations at the Americal Civic Center in Wakefield, lower level on these days: May 6, 9am-12pm; May 17, 6pm to 8pm; and May 20, 9am – 12pm. read more
