New Food Pantry Quick Market at McCarthy Senior Center

The McCarthy Senior Center in conjunction with the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry recently opened a “Quick Stop” market at the senior center.  The Quick Stop market was set up as a new service to Wakefield’s seniors to help them obtain food and other supplies when money or time is tight.

The Council on Aging/McCarthy Senior Center provides information, services and social activities to the citizens of the community 60 years of age and over. The senior center is a vibrant social facility with different activities happening daily. Exercise programs offered help increase strength and flexibility.  Educational programs provide the latest information on subjects ranging from legal and financial planning to health insurance advice. Entertainment, dining and social functions promote socialization. read more

Let’s Celebrate Mother-and-Son Food and Donation Team: Flavia and Luke Pastore!

Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry Celebrates Mother-and-Son Team: Flavia and Luke Pastore!

Flavia Pastore and her son Luke–and supported by their neighbors here in town–organized a very generous food and monetary donation drive for our clients.

And did we mention this was their Third-Annual Community Food Drive?

The food pantry’s receipt of community members’ generous food donations–to the tune of more than 50 bags of groceries–means our clients and their families will have access to healthy foods. And the food pantry can purchase from the Greater Boston Food Bank four times the monetary donation of $250, which means $1,000-worth of nutritious foods for our clients. read more

SCORE! A Huge Thank You to the Wakefield High School Boys Hockey Teams

Many thanks to the Wakefield High School boys hockey teams, their families, and Susan Langlois, grade 5 teacher at the Galvin Middle School, who organized a great food drive on behalf of our clients.

As a result of their hard work encouraging shoppers at Shaw’s on Water Street to donate, the food pantry received more than 20 boxes of food — or approximately eight overflowing shopping carts. Shaw’s shoppers also donated more than $120 in cash and gift cards.

A very grateful shout out to Shaw’s on Water Street, which helped make today’s food drive happen! read more

Cheer for The Patriots at Super Bowl LII and Tackle Hunger with The Souper Bowl of Caring to Benefit The Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry

Since 1990 – nearly 30 years — young people across the country have been leading the charge and inspiring others to collect dollars and food during the weeks leading up to the Big Game —  Super Bowl LII on February 4, 2018.  And with the Patriots competing for the championship, the excitement around this football game should feed into the energy of this important endeavor to tackle hunger.

If you are hosting a Super Bowl party or hanging in to watch the game, please consider gathering non-perishable food items (how about hearty soups, chili and stews?) to donate to the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry.  There are many places around Wakefield to drop off collected food items. read more
